During the past 16 years my wife Pat and I have been enjoying holidays in the Harz Mountains region of North Central Germany. It has long been a popular area with German people but relatively few visitors are to be seen from Britain and some other countries.
May I introduce you to why the Harz magic appeals to us, through the wonderful landscape that includes the Brocken as a central feature and highest point, some West Harz places and also the attractions of East Harz places with their towns and villages too. The effects of Germany's remarkable political change from November 1989 on a once divided region led to the re-united Harz and the opportunity to wander freely. Another magnet is the system of the Harz's narrow-gauge railways, with the remarkable steam trains. This may help you to appreciate why we have returned there and this may even attract you to become a visitor to the magic Harz.
The 2 National Parks of the east and west have been united as from 5th January 2006. See The re-united Harz page.
